Moses and the Israelites were in the desert, but what now? The people needed to be fed and to feed two to three million people you need lots of food.
According to the quartermaster general of Moses’ army Moses needed 1500 ton food every day. Did you know that the transport of this quantity of food would require two freight trains of at least a mile long? Furthermore one must not forget they were in the desert, and they needed firewood to prepare the food. So 4000 ton wood plus some more freight trains of a mile long was needed – per day. And they spent 40 years in the desert.
They also needed water. Only for drinking and washing up a few dishes some 42OOOOOO liter would be necessary and a freight train with tank wagons of about two miles long – every day.
And something else! They had to cross the Red Sea at night. If they would walk two by two over a narrow path, this double row would have been 808 miles long and it would take 35 days and nights to cross. So there must have been an opening of about three miles wide so 5000 people could cross abreast in order for all of them to make the crossing in one night.
And there is still another problem…. When setting up camp at night they would need a space of nearly 2000 square kilometers. Just imagine…. that’s quite a camping!
Do you think Moses figured all this out before leaving Egypt? I don’t think so! Moses had faith in God. He could leave all these things up to God...
